The increasing risks and increasingly complex business models for private equity and venture capital (PE and VC) investors have prompted India’s top business schools to focus on training fund managers and board members on the nuances of effective startup governance. . Indian business schools and the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) have designed courses to meet the needs of professionals placed by private capital funds in early growth stage companies abroad.
‘Companies will reform their boards in March’
Nearly 7,500 listed companies and over 20,000 unlisted companies will reform their boards in March, when the Companies Act 2013 celebrates its tenth anniversary. As a result of the change, approximately 30,000 independent directors will retire after completing two terms, as required by law. In the context of the growing economy and complexity of new-age businesses, it is important for young companies to have boards with directors who can advocate for the implementation of best corporate governance practices.
Apart from PGPEM, IIM Bangalore also offers EPGP course.
According to media reports, IIM Bangalore offers a Post Graduate Program in Enterprise Management (PGPEM) and an Executive Post Graduate Program in Management (EPGP) in addition to its flagship two-year MBA programme. For both PGPEM and EPGP, Corporate Governance and Ethics is a compulsory paper. This involves the B-school connecting with participants in family business executive programs and some industry-specific programs to discuss issues facing startups and their boards in the classroom.
According to media reports, Indian Institute of Management Bengaluru offers Post Graduate Program in Business Management (PGPEM) and Advanced Post Graduate Program in Management (EPGP) in addition to its flagship two-year MBA programme. For both PGPEM and EPGP, Corporate Governance and Ethics are compulsory papers. This includes connecting the business school with participants in the Family Business Executive Program and some industry-specific programs to discuss issues facing start-ups and their boards in the classroom.
According to media reports, IIM Indore board offers many optional courses on management and executive education programmes. These executive programs cover areas critical to strategic decision making, organizational leadership, and board effectiveness.
