Zanzibar IIT Madras: Dr. Hussein Ali Mawiny, President of Zanzibar and Revolutionary Council, inaugurated IIT Madras Zanzibar yesterday, i.e., on 6 November, at an event held at the Zanzibar campus in the presence of Tanzanian officials, Indian dignitaries, faculty and students. IIT Madras Zanzibar is the first international campus of an IIT.

This campus of IIT falls in Bwelio district and is located about 15 km south of Zanzibar Town. The campus has been designed to meet the current needs of the students and is equipped with international facilities.
According to the information, the campus has been started with 50 students in BS AI and Data Science and MTech courses in AI and Data Science. At present this is not a permanent campus. A permanent campus will soon be built jointly by the Government of Zanzibar and the Government of India.
