From the next academic session, students will study in the campuses of two Australian universities in Gift City.


Gift City: Studies will be started in the Indian campuses of Australia’s Deakin University and University of Wollongong from the next academic session 2024-25. The campuses of both these universities are being built in Gujarat International Finance Tech-City (GIFT City) in Gandhinagar. Many important agreements have also been signed between the top universities of India and Australia regarding research, joint and dual degree courses. In the first meeting of Australia India Education and Skills Council (AIESC) held in Gandhinagar on Monday, India’s Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Australian Government’s Education Minister Jason Claire MP discussed increasing research cooperation in many subjects including agriculture, water management, healthcare, AI. Have agreed. Besides, the issue of Indian students getting visa easily has also been discussed. A large number of Indian students go to Australia for studies and now these students will get the opportunity to study in Australian universities in India and their expenditure on education will also be less.

After the meeting, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Jason Claire said that more than 400 MoUs have been signed between the educational institutions of the two countries. Now campuses of two Australian universities are also being started in GIFT City in Gujarat. Studies will start here from the next session and students will be able to get admission. The education ministers of India and Australia will also visit these campuses being built in GIFT City on Tuesday. Along with this, both the countries have agreed to increase research cooperation in priority areas including mining and minerals. Both the countries have agreed to promote research activities on a large scale in the areas of agriculture, water management, mining and minerals, essential equipment, renewable energy and climate change, healthcare and AI. Dual degree and joint PhD courses will be started between the two countries. In the meeting, both the ministers agreed to further strengthen cooperation in education, skill development, research, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Pradhan said that this year has been historic for India and Australia in the field of education and skill development. In 2023, both the countries are working together on a special roadmap in the field of education. Students and faculty of both the countries are working together on research projects and this cooperation will increase further in the future. Under the agreement between Deakin University and IIT Gandhinagar, both the institutions will work together for higher education and research ecosystem. Students can travel to and from the GIFT City campus as well as Australia. National Skill Development Corporation and Australian University are preparing global job readiness program according to the current need.
