Two papers to be given in prelims exam
UPSC Prelims exam consists of two papers of two hours each. The second paper is CSAT qualifying and it is necessary to get 33 percent marks to pass in it. At the same time, the cutoff is prepared on the basis of the number of the first paper and according to the cutoff the candidates are selected for the mains exam. The questions in the exam are asked on the basis of the subject.
Mains exam after prelims
There are two language papers in the mains exam, which are qualifying and it is necessary to get 33 percent marks in them. Both the papers are of three hours each. One paper is of essay and in 3 hours you have to write two essays on different topics of your choice. Apart from this, there are four papers of General Studies, for which three hours are available. Finally there is the optional paper, which consists of two exams and the subject is chosen by the candidate. All papers except qualifying marks are included in the merit list of mains exam.
Interview after passing mains
After the declaration of the mains result, the candidate has to fill a detail application form (DAF), on the basis of which the personality test is conducted. Questions are asked during the interview on the basis of the information filled in the form. Merit list is prepared by adding the marks obtained in the interview and on the basis of this the All India Ranking is decided.
